The choice of course of study in the University, college, or polytechnics can be a life-changing decision. Such decisions I suppose should not be taken lightly. In reality and funny enough, many of us from Nigeria got that choice made for us by 'well-intentioned fellows'or families. They believed they knew the best for us. Also, many of us too were old enough to make the choice by ourselves.

Either way, the decision makes - self or the other fellows - must take cognizance of some key factors before shaping one's future with just this one choice. What are these factors?

Let's make it interactive. What factors should be considered when choosing a course to study in n the higher institution? Let's roll.

Nice write up. One factor I know many well wishers and parents and guardians don't really take to consideration is the area of interest or passing of the student.

Also to be considered is the marketability of the course of study. I stand to be corrected.

By course marketability I mean Graduate employment rates of the course major. What is the point of spending 4-6 years on a course of study and certification that won't get you employed?

So any advice for those who had their courses chosen for them before they knew it? And they don't like the course self.

What really the earnig potentials of the course? Also Look at the Career Options Available Within This Major.

Pilots are paid higher than teachers. Also, an Accounting student can become a chartered accountant but a Yoruba graduate may end up teaching.
